DSC Communications is a Communications Tower Inspection and Maintenance Provider looking for people with a positive attitude to work on cell and broadcast towers. Best candidates will be technically inclined, be good working with their hands, be able to climb to heights of 500'+, be able to lift and carry 100#, and willing to share ideas to make everyone safer and more efficient on the site. We are seeking candidates who can inspect, install, test, troubleshoot and repair various tower systems to improve how the tower communicates. This fast-paced position requires a valid driver's license, strong work ethic, previous Tower Technician experience, and a desire to seek self-improvement. Training is provided by accredited 3rd party instructors. Work is primarily in the Midwest Region market, headquarters located in Superior, Wisconsin. Competitive wage. Current staff is experienced and tenured with a desire to share their knowledge.
Role and Responsibilities
- Climbing and working on communication towers to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain wireless systems.
- Inspecting and working on various tower types, including self-support, guyed towers, etc.
- Reading construction documents and installing all customer requirements.
- Installing antennas, coax, lighting, etc., at elevated heights of over a minimum of 100 feet.
- Working closely with a small team to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Adhering to all Company and industry (i.e., OSHA, NATE) standards/regulations
- Performing manual labor to help maintain the work/construction site clean and organized
- Dispatch from our headquarters in a company provided vehicle.
- Climb to heights of up to 500' to install or repair communications equipment. Must be fit enough to make climbs daily.
- Perform work in accordance with industry standards. Read and follow design engineers' instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work on the project and adhere to safety procedures.
- Create daily site safety documents in legible handwriting. Create complete close out documentation reports for all locations.
- Maintain inventory of necessary materials and tools for company vehicles.
- Keep company vehicles clean and maintained.
- Recognize, practice, and ensure safety rules and procedures.
- Must be professional in dress, speech, and manner.
- Conduct tests to exacting standards as directed
- Organize field data
- Pick-up and delivery supplies, tools, equipment, components, etc., via company vehicle
- Adhere to all Federal, State and Local driving requirements
- Utilize available resources, technology, and tools to complete work
- Prioritize and perform job requirements and activities based on open communication with field and management personnel
- Extensive travel

Work Environment (Essential Functions)
Telecommunication Tower Apprentices will learn and be trained perform a wide variety of field specific job duties located at various settings. We travel throughout the Midwest Region and throughout the United States when applicable. Tower Technicians must have the ability to climb heights in excess of 500 feet, lift more than 100 lbs., and have the ability to travel extensively out of state for extended periods of time, including overnight and weekends. DSC Communications provides all training and certifications, base pay (including travel time), individual hotel rooms and per diem pay for incidentals for overnight work days. All new employees will undergo a full tower and rescue training prior to first deployment. Tower Technicians have opportunity for overtime depending on the job assignment.
Knowledge:
Candidate must be or become an Authorized Climber and have or obtain the following knowledge/experience: Technical Training, Scope of Work, Basic Rigging, Material Handling, Ropes/Knots, Operate Trucks/trailers, and equipment, Load Securement, Monopole, Self- Support, Guyed, Stealth, Rooftop, Antennas, Application and interpretation of DSC policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the program area, OSHA 10, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), Radio Frequency Awareness (RF), Jobsite Safety Analysis (JSA), Scope of Work (SOW), CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogens
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to work at heights, with abilities to become efficient and keeping safety as a top priority
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-change environment
- Must demonstrate accountability in order to set priorities, organize workload, handle multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Good analytical and computer skills
- Strong technical, written, and oral communication skills

- Ability and interest in performing work in the field
- Demonstrated willingness to learn
- Physical ability and the willingness to climb towers in excess of 500 feet
- Physical ability to lift 100 + lbs. and be comfortable working in an outdoor environment in all types of weather
- Ability to bend, lift, twist, squat, kneel, sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to work outside and withstand varied inclement weather conditions [Approx. -20° to 110°F]
- Ability to reach, climb, and/or grasp ladders or other tall structures
- Ability to meet physical demands of duties
- Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with workers, other department employees, and the general public
- Some ability to read and interpret sketches and blueprints
- Ability to obtain applicable tower climbing certifications
- Ability to travel extensively out of state and for extended periods of time (travel required is 95% to include weekends and overnight)
- Ability to be covered by company auto insurance plan (e.g. Good Driving Record - No DUI's or suspensions within the last 5 years and no more than 2 traffic violations (with less than 3pts. max on each violation) in the past 3 years)
- Pass the following tests prior to employment: drug test, background check, and physical and certification training

Work Experience
- Tower Technician: 3 years (Preferred)
Preferred Education
- High School diploma is required, some college experience preferred
Preferred Licenses/Certifications
- Competent Climber Certification – Authorized Climber
Supplemental Pay
DSC Communications provides the following additional compensation:
- All required fall protection equipment
- Company Credit Card for payment of hotel rooms – no requirement to share a room
- $45.00 per day for meals while traveling - this is reimbursed on paychecks - Company does not advance this money under any circumstances
