4 Tips for Standing Out in a Crowded Applicant Pool As a Tower Climber

Being a cell tower climber is one of the most exciting jobs in the telecommunications industry. You get to be outside, working as a climbing crew on cell towers, which provides a great view of the surrounding area. When you’re looking for a job as a tower climber, it can be hard to stand out from the other candidates. However, there are a few things you can do to make yourself stand out from the crowd.

  1. Highlight Your Experience

The best thing you can do for yourself when trying to stand out in a crowded applicant pool as a tower climber is to highlight your experience. The more experience you have, the more of an advantage you have over other applicants.

When highlighting your experience, be sure to list any special accomplishments that you can mention. Employers prefer candidates that have special accomplishments such as saving someone on the job or completing a project under adverse conditions.

  1. Identify a Gap in The Team and Offer to Fill It

One of the best ways to stand out in a crowded applicant pool as a tower climber is to do your homework and find gaps in the company’s team. For example, if you have a certification that their existing team members don’t have, you can point that out to position yourself as a more valuable candidate.

Likewise, if you have more experience working on other kinds of towers like radio towers that the members on their team are less familiar with, you can use that experience to your advantage.

  1. Don’t Use Your Standard Resume, Use a Resume That’s Tailored to the Position You’re Applying to

If you see that the tower climbing job you’re applying to calls for someone with certain skills or traits, be sure to tailor your resume so that the traits they’re looking for are clearly highlighted.

While it’s tempting to use the same resume over and over again for each tower climbing job you apply for, employers appreciate things like attention to detail. When you’re applying to a tower climbing job that has an excessive number of applicants, tailoring your resume is a great way to help yourself stand out.

  1. Tap Your Network for References

Standing out in a crowded applicant pool as a tower climber can be challenging, but you can make the process much easier by securing a number of references. Employers love candidates that come with positive references.

Whenever you apply for a tower climbing position, be sure to tap your network for as many references as you can. That said, be careful when selecting the people you ask. You should only ask people that you can count on to say the right things and do you a solid.
