Position Overview
The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing telecommunications construction projects from start to finish, including fiber optic, and structured cabling.
This role leads crews, coordinates with subcontractors and customers, and ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
You will mentor foremen and crews while maintaining productivity, quality standards, and operational performance across assigned projects, with a focus on telecom network integrity and performance.
What You’ll Do
Project Leadership
- Lead and supervise Foremen and field crews on telecommunications and fiber optic projects
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
- Coordinate with customers, engineers, municipalities, and subcontractors
- Monitor project productivity, safety, and quality standards
- Oversee installation of fiber optic, coaxial, and structured cabling systems
Crew Management
- Recruit, hire, and retain qualified field employees
- Mentor and develop Foremen and telecom crew members (splicers, linemen, technicians)
- Conduct performance evaluations and manage employee relations
- Promote career development and cross-training in fiber, and cabling disciplines
Project Operations
- Plan project schedules and manage daily field activities
- Review and approve timecards, reports, invoices, and purchase orders
- Maintain accurate project documentation, as-builts, and daily logs
- Manage subcontractor production, quality, and accuracy
- Review and approve change orders when necessary
- Ensure proper execution of fiber splicing, testing, and network turn-up
Equipment & Compliance
- Ensure telecom construction equipment is maintained and inspected
- Report equipment usage and issues to the Fleet Manager
- Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures
- Ensure crews operate safely and follow company policies.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve field processes and telecom deployment efficiency
- Help strengthen operational efficiency across projects
- Represent the company professionally with crews, customers, and network stakeholders

Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Technical training in telecommunications or related field preferred
Experience
- 5+ years of supervisory experience
- Experience in telecommunications construction required (not just general utility)
- Proven experience with fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing
- Experience with outside plant (OSP) construction
- Experience working around underground and aerial utilities in rural and urban environments
Technical Knowledge
- Coaxial cable installation and testing
- Blueprint/print reading and telecom design plans
- Underground and aerial telecom installation methods
Familiarity with construction equipment such as:
- Excavators
- Backhoe/loaders
- Cable plows
- Directional drilling equipment (preferred)
- Compact track loaders
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
Skills & Qualities

Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license (CDL Class A preferred)
- Ability to travel extensively and stay away from home for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Physical ability to lift, walk, stand, bend, and perform field activities
Work Environment
This role is primarily field-based, working outdoors on active construction sites supporting telecommunications network deployments across the United States.
